The use of aromatherapy herbs and spices to affect mood and for medical uses dates back to at leat 200BC. The Chinese, Indians and Ancient Egyptians included. However the term aromatherapy wasn't coined until the 1920' when a French scientist called Gattefosse re-discovered the powerfully healing effects of lavender when he plunged his hand into a vat of distilled lavender having burnt it. The lavender was shown to have remarkable healing properties and is now used in our burn clinics as a standard treatment. Todays research has shown many healing chemicals in the oils, benefits such as helping the body detoxify, reduce inflammation, aiding sleep, and much more...
